It's A Finish!

It was October 2017 when Barb V. posted that she and a friend had decided to make basket blocks and invited anyone to join in on the fun. So I did!

I started with some fat quarters and other miscellaneous fabrics that just never fit into any other projects. But for this quilt they were perfect!

I like the strong contrast . . .

. . . and the border fabric that Barb shared with me years ago. Thanks, Barb!

Here's a detail of the quilting.

And a full view on the floor.

I'm still working on better lighting where my design wall is but this is the finished quilt. It's 49-1/2" x 49-1/2".

So now I'm quilting Marbles--a UFO that's on my to-do list this year.

I couldn't resist buying a Wool Moda Scrap Bag on Green Fairy Quilts though I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it. All the strips are short lengths and about an inch wide. I actually like looking at them just the way they are :)

One of the big winter attractions in this area is the Ice Castle in Saranac Lake. Normally you'd be able to park your car and walk around but this year people have been told to stay in their cars and drive by--or better yet stay home and come back next year!

  1. Oh, your basket quilt is wonderful!! Love the colors and "feel" of it. The border fabric from Barb is glorious and your quilting is the magic finish!
I don't know if I've seen Marbles before. Looks intriguing--beautiful fabrics. Would love to see a full view.
The wool rolls look very fun.
We have an Ice Castle a couple of hours away, but it is not a literal castle like you have. You can look at it at this link if you are interested.

  2. Could you use the wool scraps as they are for pincushions? Love all your stuff!

    1. I thought of that, too. They remind me of those colorful felted wool pincushions :)

  3. Love your finished basket quilt. The quilting is gorgeous and the colors beautiful. It's perfect all around. Fun idea with the ice castles, but I'd probably stay home where it was warm!

  4. Oh là là... your basket quilt is fa-bu-lous !!! I the choice of the fabric border is per-fect !!
    Happy stitching Barbara !

  5. Oh my - this quilt is absolutely stunning. I love everything about it. Especially all that wonderful quilting.
To me this is quilt perfection! The backing is great too.
I'd love to visit the castle someday. Looks fun.

  6. Beautiful finish Barbara! The fabrics blend beautifully and your hand quilting is exquisite. A treasure!

  7. Beautiful little baskets! Love the fabrics the quilting, the whole thing!

  8. Oh I just love this basket quilt! It is so striking and warm. The fabrics vary in scale - I mean it's just so beautiful. Your intricate hand quilting is amazing and really does this quilt justice. Congratulations on a beautiful finish in cold February!

  9. Oh how beautiful. This quilt has everything I love, baskets, gorgeous fabric and corner blocks. I adore it. The marbles quilting is coming along beautifully too. Those rolls of wool remind me of a Kandinsky painting. I agree that they look great just as they are but I'm sure you have something wonderful up your sleeve.

  10. Beautiful! What's not to love about basket blocks? Quilts are all the more sweet when pieced with gifted fabrics from friends.

    1. Thanks so much for stopping by. Basket blocks are one of my favorites!
