Scrap Quilt Antique Look

Another Ebay purchase, another unfinished top. I don't know why I got so involved buying unfinished pieces a year ago. But I did.

This one caught my eye. It's entirely hand-pieced. I can't find the block name so I'm calling it Arrowhead Variation.

The fabrics range from the 30s-60s, mostly cottons but also a rayon or two, even seersucker. Amazing how they all came together to look like an "antique" quilt.

The sashing is 3", the blocks are 10" and the top is 74" x 90".

To my eye, the red and lime green are really odd shades but they work. An awful lot of work went into piecing this top. There are 33 pieces in each block x 42 = 1386! That's not including the sashing and corner blocks.

I had also purchased 100 log cabin block centers on Etsy.

They were small and didn't measure more than 3" x 4" at best. I trimmed them . . .

. . . and started adding strips of darks and lights until the unfinished blocks measured 6-1/2".

Then I made 6-1/2" asterisk blocks and eventually combined the two. I'll show you more pics next time.

Still waiting for warmer weather and sunny days. It's currently raining with snow expected later!
