I am thrilled to have this top done. It's really big 88" x 94."
This is how it came to be . . .
It started with this quilt on the cover of HQPNJ's book NJ Quilts. (HQPNJ photo)
This is the back of that quilt and my inspiration. I always liked the way the blocks were set in strips and was hoping to find a large floral stripe that I could use but that just wasn't meant to be. (HQPNJ photo)
But I did have 2-1/2 yds of this French General bird stripe so I started with that.
I was determined to find a brown stripe for the sashing similar to that in the original quilt.
Marcus Fabrics Bathwick by Karen Styles had just what I wanted and more. The leaf stripe was from the same collection.
All in all I'm pleased with the way it turned out. To hand quilt or have it machine quilted remains the big question :)
It took me a whole week to de-clutter and clean my sewing room but well worth the effort :)
I hope you're having a great week!

Wow--you did a beautiful job replicating the back of that quilt. It totally deserves to be a "front"!
ReplyDeleteAnd a clean sewing room? Impressive! What a novel idea. I'll have to try it sometime. :)
Love your quilt top! It's hard when you have a vision of the ideal fabrics, but You found the perfect ones. The soft brown leave print is beautiful. I love the fact that the back of the quilt was your inspiration. It's a fabulous setting to showcase all your blocks with the inkings.
ReplyDeleteYour sewing room looks as neat as pin and I'm intrigued by the pattern on your floor.
What great fabric finds to complete your beautiful quilt! Your sewing room looks wonderful; no doubt you are looking forward to spending a lot of time there quilting in 2019! ---"Love"

ReplyDeleteLove your quilt!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat top and the dramatic setting is wonderful and sets off the blocks so nicely. Hand Quilting a pieced quilt is always tough. I prefer applique' quilts for HQ, but this one has those lovely border prints. The inkings are so so lovely. What a beautiful job you did with them.
ReplyDeleteYour seling room is so inviting. What a charming place to create!
This truly takes my breath away! I just adore this setting and you most certainly found the perfect fabrics. It is so funny that I started writing a post about the pitfalls of trying to clean my sewing room! Your photo is awe inspiring. I'm not sure if I even have a floor under all my clutter. Baby steps, right?! I hope to post the January minis next Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteHello Barbara !

Love your sewing room especially the star on the floor !!
