In Our Backyard, Quilt, and Memorial Day

It's been an interesting week . . .

The other day I spotted this groundhog making its way toward the garden. It's been a long time since I've seen one in the backyard but it was a reminder that I need to do some serious weeding!

We have no idea how this deer got in the backyard as it is completely fenced in and the gates are always closed . . .

. . . and then we discovered her baby. So cute!

I added a star border to my scrappy blocks. I had lots of leftover stars from Barbara Brackman's Stars In A Time Warp quiltalong and decided they'd be perfect for this quilt. I still have a third border in mind . . .

The new Valley Forge Betsy Ross 13-Star Heritage Flag Kit I ordered from united.states.flag.com arrived in time for Memorial Day. I love the look of this new "aged" flag.

This Memorial Day let us not forget Lt. Harry I. Luth who died in a mid-air collision during a WWII training mission near Phenix City, AL. He was only 23 years old and is buried in Restland Memorial Park, E. Hanover, NJ.

Enjoy the holiday weekend!

  1. I'm pretty sure that deer would have no problem jumping your fence; her baby is so cute! Be careful of the mom; they can be dangerous when protecting a baby. One killed a neighbor of mine back at the farm a few years ago. Your stars made your quilt very special! It's beautiful! ---"Love"

    1. Thanks! I won't go in the backyard if mama is out there. Must confess I love watching both of them :) I'm very pleased with the star border and very happy that I got to use some of the extras!

  2. Sorry; I hit publish too soon! Certainly we need to remember all our veterans, living or deceased, during the coming days. I hope to get my patriotic quilts out tomorrow and will leave them out at least through July 4. We owe such a debt to those who have served our country to keep us free! ---"Love"

  3. You certainly have had your share of wildlife this week. The Time Warp stars are perfect for that border. Delicious! And, thank you for sharing Lt. Harry I. Luth. May we honor him Monday and ever day. Have a great weekend.

  4. I always enjoy your posts. The fawn is adorable, but the groundhog could spell trouble. Love your new "old" flag.

  5. I meant to add I love how your scrappy blocks are coming together. Was the initial idea from Edyta's new book?

Your SIATW look so fabulous around your scrappy quilt. I can't wait to see what comes next.
Your Betsy Ross flag is a wonderful symbol for Memorial Day and thanks for reminding me that is not just a hamburger holiday.
