Seems like we had nearly a week of bad weather until late in the afternoon on Mother's Day when the sun finally came out. No complaints, though. I got a lot of sewing done!
I made a label for my stars quilt . . .
. . . and then literally put the quilt to bed :)
A while ago I had made some 4-patch strips after seeing a little quilt on Pinterest. They sat for the longest time until I decided to put them together last week. Funny how I never noticed the way that last block on the lower right disappeared into the background. So . . .
. . . I made another with better contrast and appliqued it over the first. Now, that looks much better!
I cut out the bottom layer to eliminate the bulk . . .
. . . and layered the quilt using Hobbs fusible batting. I marked the quilting lines with a stencil and was happy to discover half-diamonds fit perfectly in the border without having to make any adjustments. Yay!
Here it is all finished :) It measures 18"L x 19-1/2"W.
So now it's time to start quilting again and this quilt was next in line. I'm doing an orange peel design in the center section, not sure yet about the inner border, and cross-hatch in the wide outer border. I'm hoping to get started tonight :)

The stars quilt looks fabulous on the bed. And I adore the star quilt on the table. I love the alternate blocks. It is a stunning quilt. I have used that grapes border print on a few things and as always, I wish I had bought all they had!
ReplyDeleteWell, the rain certainly didn't stop you from having fun. Your star quilt looks great on the bed and I loved your label. I probably would have changed that one little four patch too. Your eye would have always gone there and been irritated. Now it still will but you'll be happy. The next star quilt is fantastic. What a great choice for the alternating, not so, plain blocks.
ReplyDeleteHooray for the rain Barbara ! You've done a wonderful work and your quilt with stars is wonderful....the second too ! Great quilting !
ReplyDeleteI love your Pinterest inspiration....this little quilt is very cute ! :)
What a cute little doll quilt. The star quilt is so so fabulous! I love this quilt from the NJ book - I'll have to get mine out. I wish I had made it bigger like yours! love it.
ReplyDeletewe had the same week of rain in CT - I'm loving the sun this week.
What a sweet doll quilt and both star quilts are fabulous. Your finished star quilt looks right at home in a cozy setting with the dollies looking on. The rain reached us in MA too and the sun this week is so very welcome!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to applique on a new block! love all your projects and look forward to the new quilting - orange peel sounds perfect :)
