I've been busy going through my stash and cutting up small pieces of fabric into 2", 2-1/2" and 3" strips, 4-1/2", 3", 2" and 1-1/2" squares and 1-1/2" x 3" rectangles. Feels so good to see my stash on the shelves much more orderly.
First up is this piece I put together using 4-1/2" squares and leftover strips. Easy peasy! I'm not adding anything else to the top so it's ready for backing and batting--and machine quilting.
I bought that brown fabric and the border stripe at the thrift shop and then made some 16-patches to brighten it up. Not sure if it will stay this way or not.
I think this little piece is just going to keep on growing. Have no plans other than to add scraps of different sizes along the way.
Somewhere under my Gypsy Wife quilt is my granddaughter:)
My daughter and I have a plot at the community garden and this year we also planted some Nasturtiums. Did you know you the flowers and leaves are edible? Looks like a Nasturtium pizza will be on the menu soon:)
We had an abundance of flat and curly parsley so I made a flower arrangement with some Echinacea and Goldenrod.
We did the River Walk in Saranac Lake last week. This short trail is right in downtown and was dotted along the way with large bugs made by Larry Robject, a local teacher and sculptor.
Lastly, this little red squirrel was munching away in a nearby tree. So cute!
That's all for now!

Oh how delicious! I love all 3 projects. Little squares are so satisfying!! Speaking of delicious, your nasturtiums are lovely. My mom used to put them in salads. Yummy and spicy.
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to have scraps prepared like that. All of your projects are so sweet. It's fun to have an ongoing scrap project that will grow. Your flowers are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt will be nice to have lots of variety of precut pieces. I have mostly cut different sizes of squares and strips with the small leftovers. They look so yummy in their separate piles. Occasionally, I remember to use them! You've jumped right in.
ReplyDeleteGood for you, getting scraps trimmed into usable sizes. I love what you are creating with them. Great use of your thrift store purchases, too.
ReplyDeleteI have never tasted nasturtiums, but I have taken echinacea. :)
I love the insect sculpture! That would be fun to take a walk and see all of them. I used to be an entomology 4-H leader.
Wow, I can only dream of being that organized! Some great projects coming from those scraps, I'm especially drawn to the brown one. Love that butterfly!
ReplyDeleteOh Barbara, what darling little mini quilts! I especially love the 16-patches set in brown, and I may have to copy I mean use the inspiration for one of my own. You definitely have a knack for transforming scraps into little works of art. I love your photos, as usual. I love nasturtiums, but not to eat. Too bitter for me!
ReplyDeletewhat a bummer such a beautiful post has gotten so much spam. I had some recently too.
ReplyDeleteYour little doll quilt is my favorite kind. Simple and charming.
Love your chocolate brown quilt and scrap piece.
Nasturtium are such pretty flowers or are they herbs? I like the striations in the leaves which are such a pretty shape.
