Two more quilts . . . 

. . . and this one may not look very exciting but wait until you see the Prussian Blue fabrics! 

Aren't they gorgeous? I have a Prussian Blue board on Pinterest so pop on over to see more quilts--and dresses.

This year I photographed a few more blocks of the Album Quilt which is on a bed in the History House at Mt. Tabor. Two years ago I also took some pics which you can see if you follow the link in yesterday's post.

The interesting thing about this quilt is the machine top-stitching on the appliques.

I tried to copy the quirky vintage block in Barbara B's blog. 

I really had to dig deep to find a lace fabric. 

Plainfield 4 is done. I'm trying to reproduce some of the blocks in a NJ Sampler quilt. You can see the other three here.

Quilt Show at The Tabernacle

Last Saturday a friend and I went on a house tour of Mt. Tabor, NJ, where there were charming cottages and a quilt show at The Tabernacle meeting house. You can read more about this quaint Methodist camp meeting ground in a previous post here.  

We walked up and down the rows to get a close look at all the quilts that were draped over the pews.

It's A Finish! and Lancaster Blue Stars

I finally finished a small Four Patch Medallion reproduction which I started in January. It's really the last of the small pieces I made earlier this year and quilted this summer. 

It's 20" x 20" with 1" squares.

 Center detail. 

The back. Hand quilted in cross-hatch with straight lines around the center medallion.

The original quilt is from the Ann Hermes Doll Quilt Collection and I first saw it on Pinterest. Ann has a wonderful blog Notes from the Quilt Lab and has recently published a book Pennsylvania Pillowcases and Other Small Treasures. I refer to her book often for ideas on color combinations when making stars. You can see it here.

I have another small project in the works--Lori's Country Roads quiltalong. The first step is done--9 sets of red and blue four patches.

Thrift Shop Finds, Cretonne Stars and Scrap Status

After reading about Lori's Charitable Opportunities and her upcoming trip to Bolivia, I wanted to do my part. 

There's a great thrift shop not far from our cabin so I purchased several pillowcases for 50-cents each and made these little dresses.

They were quick and easy. 

I followed these instructions found on Pinterest.

But now I think I'm hooked. This afternoon I bought a few more pillowcases, a little fabric and a baggie of rag balls--all for $3.

 

Here are last week's Cretonne Stars.

 

I only had one good example in my stash (see below) so went shopping to see what I could find. This leaf print caught my eye.  

 

This one, too. I'm not sure I like that blue but used it anyway because it matched the center. See the faded floral print in the corner squares?

 

It's the reverse of the fabric you see here. 

 

  

This one is from my stash. Looks like Cretonne, don't you think?  

 

I just learned that the quilt shop is closing and the owners are retiring. I'm sorry to see it go as it is the only fabric store in the area. 

 
Scrap status: after a busy summer of cutting (and sewing) scraps I'm down to 2 very small piles--and yes, they are ironed and ready to be cut.

I have one drawer of triangles (all sizes) many of which are leftovers from prior projects . . . 

 

Strips . . . thinking Rail Fence for these.  

 

Always need squares for something. I cut them 5", 3", and 2" . . . 

 

. . . and will continue cutting 1-1/2" squares, tumblers for another quilt-in-progress and 1-1/2" x 3" rectangles for 4-patches. 

Whew!
