Selvage Strings Update--It's Done!

I must say I've really enjoyed sewing along with Lori at Humble Quilts and participating in this Stringalong project. It got me moving! Thank you, Lori! And thanks, too, to Rachel, Wendy, and Janet O. for sharing!

Well, I admit this finished quilt is rather heavy, lol!

The small foundation blocks are 6" and were so quick and easy to make. I tried out several layouts but ultimately decided on this one with black sashing and border.

A little closer.

Barbie quilted it for me in a large leafy pattern as I didn't want that dense overall look.

It worked out fine!

I think that striped binding added some pizzazz . . .

. . . and so did the paisley fabric on the back! Ta-da!

I'm linking up with Lori here. Take a look!

Enjoy your weekend!

August Mini aka Double Play

I started out wanting to make a little quilt with the Sandy Klop for Moda Bread 'n Butter Charm Pack that Rachel had given me but ended up making two :)

You may wonder what the Blue Line boundaries of the green areas refer to on this map of NY State. The larger one refers to the Adirondack Park which is where our cabin is located and the smaller one is the Catskills.

I didn't know what to do when the blue line in my little quilt looked so out of place so I really stretched my imagination for a solution.

I turned the quilt around so the blue line was now at the top. Then I added pine trees which stood for the forests surrounding our cabin within the blue line boundaries of the Adirondack Park :) It's a bit of a stretch but it solved my problem :)

For the second quilt, I first made the center block thinking I could really get into making more but that didn't happen. I used the last of the 5" pieces and added little squares of what was left of the polka dots.

I added two borders . . .

. . . and quilted simple diamonds with zig-zags in the border. Interestingly, it was this time last year when I made a Triple Play for August. You can see them here.

And make sure you hop on over to Wendy's website. I'll update the link as soon as she posts her little quilt.

Have a great week!

Bed Turning I

Thanks for all your comments about doing a bed turning. There are 20 quilts under the Eagle Medallion--some large and some small. It's kind of cramped quarters to get full photos but you get the idea. Here are the first ten . . .

Stars in a Time Warp (2016) which I pretty much ruined when I panicked at a fabric bleed and used color run remover to try and rectify it. That's the streak you see in the upper left.

My Best Applique was started in 1994 and finished in 2017 :)

Gypsy Influence (2017) was a continuation of my Gypsy Wife quilt made with fabrics from the 60s and 70s. These were 9 individual quilts bound and sewed together potholder style.

Early Stars (2014) made with a blotched ground chintz repro though I didn't know that's what it was called at the time.

Tulip, Sassafras and Maple (1996). My interpretation of a block from a NJ sampler quilt documented by HQPNJ. I literally picked the maple leaf off a tree to use as a template.

Stars and Leaves (2018) was made with leftovers from Stars in a Time Warp combined with a favorite leaf pattern.

My version of a Nine-Patch Repro (2016). All it takes is one fabric to get me started on a new project and this border fabric did the trick!

Flying Geese (2004) was the first quilt I made with a 3/8" binding. All the fabrics were from my stash.

Triangles (2019) was inspired by an antique quilt I saw at the Hamilton-Schuyler House last year.

All That Madders (2016) with an 1876 Centennial repro stripe border.

To be continued . . . :)

Have a great week!

It's A Finish!

The Eagle Medallion that I started assembling in February is now done!

The eagle panel was from Rachel and all the churn dash blocks were made by quilters who participated in Barb V's block swap a year ago. The star blocks were extras I made for Barbara B's Stars in a Time Warp and the framed nine patches were of my own doing.

Barbie long arm quilted it for me in a lovely large floral/leaf pattern.

Close-up.

A corner detail.

The $3/yd backing fabric was a bargain several years ago when our LQS closed.

I put it on the guest bed . . .

. . . and you have no idea how many other quilts are underneath it!

Hope you are enjoying the last days of summer!

County Fair and Anniversary Heart

We hadn't been to a county fair in years so when friends invited us to go with them last Friday evening, we couldn't resist! We hit lots of traffic en route due to the President's arrival at his NJ Golf Course but we made it--eventually!

All my husband was interested in were the balloons and food, lol!

Pretty wagon with its pink wheels and flowers :)

And of course, you know what I was interested in--quilts! Evening Star Quilters had a lovely display.

I made this heart for Rachel and her husband who were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

I decorated a manila shipping tag with pretty paper and a 'quilt' stamp on one side . . .

. . . and color-copied the fabric for the reverse side. Congratulations, R & T!

How cute are they???
