September Mini Plus

I made this month's mini from leftover tumblers.

There were just enough pieces to make this little quilt. Of course, the source of those pieces remains an unfinished UFO so I think it's about time to focus on that one to get it done! 

In the ditch quilting all the way around and extending the tumbler shape to the outer edges of the top and bottom. (Click for a better view)

A small piece from my TS purchase a couple weeks ago certainly came in handy for the back.

I hung it with two more minis to create a pink theme this month.

This is the pumpkin seed stencil I used for both my August mini and the border on Marbles. I ordered it from The Stencil Company years ago but I see it is still available here. 

 

 

And the stencil on the left worked for the center of each circle in Marbles and the one on the right for the border in August mini.  

I added another round to my scrap quilt--an ongoing project :)

The leaves are beginning to turn so stay tuned for some scenic pics in the near future.

It's A Finish!

It's been a long time coming :) 

Do you remember this quilt? I started it in 2016 when Quilty 365 was popular. You can read prior posts here.

The polka dot border was leftover from a blouse I made in 1965 :)

I wanted to show you the quilting stencils that I used but for some reason I couldn't get the photos to load/transfer. If and when they do I'll post them. One is a pumpkin seed and the other is 4 petals in a square.  

Maybe you'll get the idea from this photo. The light was just right to capture the quilting.

Sorry about the shadow on the upper left. I haven't figured out a way to avoid it when I photograph quilts on my design wall.

It feels so good to have Marbles finished. Now I'm ready to tackle another UFO :)

August Mini Finished

 I finally finished my August mini. Here are some photos:

I quilted the center in a pumpkin seed pattern. . .

. . . and really like the way it looks.

The borders were quilted in a cable design.

 

The fabric on the back is exactly the same as the border on the front except this has birds in two strips. And it's a different colorway than the front--purple vs brown. Another thrift shop find, of course!

And here it is all finished! I washed it and put it in the dryer so it has that crinkly look. It's 27" x 27".

Yes, it's labelled :)

The view from the little park next to the TS :)

Last Saturday, there was a festival at another park in town and the Wildlife Refuge brought this turtle for all to see. Did you know turtles like to be petted? 

Another amazing sunset last week as the sky changed from this to . . .

. . . this. Wow! 

FYI, I did go back to the TS and bought the other 10 block patterns for the Old Navajo Sampler :) Yay!

Walk Around the Lake

 One of my favorite things to do is walk around Mirror Lake in Lake Placid. 

It's only 2.5 miles but the view is wonderful and the flowers are gorgeous!

I parked my car in town and started walking counter clockwise along the beach and past some amazing houses.

I saw a small group of mallards doing what ducks do and definitely not afraid.

Then came the flowers--oh, the flowers! This is one of many planters spaced out along the route.

Check out these hydrangeas in front of a private residence.

About 3/4 of the way around I stopped to take photos of the lush gardens in front of the Mirror Lake Inn.

I dream of having a garden like this someday:)

I went back to my car (had to complete the entire route, lol!) and then walked back through town and treated myself to a new pair of Hoka running shoes. Love the added cushioning! 

Yesterday I stopped by the thrift shop . . . 

. . . and came home with more fabrics (L to R): Promenade II by Le Rouvray for Free Spirit, Old Glory V by Nancy Gere Windham, Judy Rothermel Old Sturbridge Village Collection, Victorian Botanicals by Pam Weeks for P&B Textiles, and Blue Skies by Thimbleberries for RJR. 

A charm packet of 125 5" squares. . . 

. . . and two Old Navajo Sampler block patterns by One Horse Studio. My initial thought was to make monthly minis but I've decided to go back on Saturday and buy the rest--I think there's 12 total. Plus they are only $1.00 each! How can I resist????

When I paid for these goodies the cashier wondered what was going on with all the fabric sales that day. I told her I was a quilter and she said another person was in earlier and bought a whole big stack. Uh-oh!

Thrift Shop Banner Day!

As you all know, I am a thrift shop junkie and last week my visit proved to be a banner day!

I spent $17.00 on fabric and here's what I got . . . 

Two yards of Winterthur Museum John Hewson birds by Andover Fabrics.

Winterthur Museum John Hewson Vase panels by Andover.

3 yards of a George Washington toile From the Collection of Judy Rothermel Marcus Brothers. 

1 yard of Old Glory V by Nancy Gere Windham Fabrics.

1 yard each of two colorways of The Flags of Freedom Old Glory V by Nancy Gere, Windham.

2 yds of Civil War Anthem by Barbara Brackman and Terry Clothier Thompson :)

And a ziploc filled with fat quarters.

I often think of the person who donated all this fabric to the thrift shop. She must have been a quilter. All these fabrics fit in with my quilt-making style and the wheels are already turning. 

I finally bought a new Adirondack-style lamp to go with THE Adirondack bed :)

This hydrangea blossom is huge. The bush is growing in my daughter's yard.

This scrap project increases by the day. I continue to add rounds and will keep doing so until who knows when :)
