This pin cushion was actually given to me by Aunt Midge's landlord after he sold the property and had a garage sale. It's a favorite.
Adirondack-style sewing stand with a wood base.
A cute hat pin cushion with rick-rack trim.
Lots of needles in this cute needle case.
Needle threaders to the rescue, lol!
Matchbook-style needle books that my mother-in-law saved. All from CA.
Cute advertising for snaps.
Tailors' chalk in red, white, and blue :)
An assortment of scissors . . .
. . . button hooks . . .
. . . and a dressmaker book. I actually have lots more but I think I better stop here :)
Here's a sneak peak of a new quilt that I'm working on.
More to come :)
Lastly, with St. Patrick's Day just around the corner, here is the link to a poem my mother wrote in 1945.
Enjoy your week!

You have some wonderful vintage items.
ReplyDeleteI am interested to see the full version of your latest creation. Definitely like all of the blocks you shared here.
Your Mom was very good with words. Clever poem--and now I know what Blue Jay is. :)
How nice to see a part of your sewing collections, especially the thimbles. I have a little cardboard box containing a half dozen or so antique thimbles of all sizes and a few vintage Sewing Susan, Happy Home and Sewing Circle needle books. So much fun to discover at yard sales though they are hard to find around here. I'm intrigued by your new quilt project and look forward to seeing more soon.
ReplyDeleteOh my, you do have a nice collection. And that quilt - wow! I can't wait to see the next step. The poem your mother wrote is sweet. I love going through ads in old magazines, but I had never heard of Blue Jay. Guess I skipped over the ads for corns!
ReplyDeleteOh.. I just love your collectibles and ephemera! I save many of those things myself, but not all have a spot for display. I pick up old thimbles whenever I find them, and use them! I didn't find anything too interesting in this realm at our Bargain Garden this year, although I did score with the indigo scraps! (see my blog). Sadly, I don't think folks in this area value much of this cool old stuff anymore.
ReplyDeleteI love that first wall hanging! Of course, all your sewing collectibles are so special too! Can't wait to see the finish on your current project. ---"Love"
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely collection of sewing things. I love the button hooks, not sure why but they are just so old timey. I have a number of sewing susans (needle books). they are fun.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your collections. The display cabinet is a great piece.
It looks like a magazine photo!
Such dear sewing collectibles - we share the same interest! The silk covered heart and Adirondack-style pin cushion look similar to items I also have. Perfect mini quilt hanging by your cabinet too.
ReplyDeleteYou have a wonderful collection! I hope you share the rest another time. The Avon thimbles are very interesting. Do you think anyone actually used them? Love what you're working on. Your mom's poem was sweet and cleverly written with the lilting Irish accent.
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat collection! I often look at sewing tools/notions in the antique stores, but really have had no place to display.
